Google announced Android 10 in September last year with several new features and privacy-related changes. Soon after the launch, several flagship devices started receiving the update.

Over the past few months, a lot of devices have received the Android 10 update and most of the new devices launched come with Android 10 out of the box. If you have an Android 10 device, here are some of the best features that you need to try.

Do note that there might be minor differences in settings in phones from different companies. In this post, we have used a OnePlus 7 running on OxygenOS 10.3.1.

Amazing features of Android 10

Dark mode

Google has introduced system-wide dark mode with the Android 10 update.

  • Open settings and go to ‘Customisation’.
  • Now, click on ‘Preset Theme’ and select ‘Nuanced Dark’. Most phones will just have this as ‘Dark’.
  • Now, click on Apply.

Silent notifications

Google has also added a silent notification feature that allows you to easily manage notifications. If you don’t want an app to send you notifications with sound, you can change this easily.

When you get a notification, tap and hold on the notification.
Now, you can change between ‘Important’ and ‘Other’.
You can also completely turn off notifications for the particular app by clicking on ‘Turn off notifications’.
You can also manage notification settings of all apps from settings.

  • Click on ‘Settings’.
  • Tap on ‘Apps and notifications’.
  • Now, tap on ‘Notifications’.

You can now change notification settings for all apps.

Gesture navigation

Google has finally introduced gesture navigation with the Android 10 update, allowing you to replace the traditional navigation buttons with gestures.

  • Open settings and click on ‘Button and gestures’.
  • Now, click on ‘Navigation bar & gestures’.
  • You can choose from different options available.

WiFi QR codes

Google has made it easier to share WiFi passwords with other devices in Android 10.

  • Go to WiFi settings and click on the WiFi network whose password you want to share.
  • Now, click on ‘Share’.
  • You can scan the QR code from any device.

Focus Mode

Android 10 also brings a ‘Focus Mode’ that helps you disconnect and focus on your work.

  • Go to settings and click on ‘Digital Wellbeing & parental controls’.
  • Now, scroll down and click on ‘Focus mode’.
  • Now, select the apps and set the time during which you don’t want to get notifications from the selected apps.
  • Click on ‘Apply’.
