In the 2020-21 session, new engineering colleges will not be enrolled in the BTech program (No Admission for Btech). Given the decreasing demand for engineering in international and national markets, the Central Government’s committee has suggested this to the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The eight-member committee recommends that admission in the same engineering colleges should be allowed in the 2019 session, which has been filled up in the last few years. However, the AICTE will make the final decision on the report of the committee.
No Admission for BTech in New Engineering College in 2020-21
According to sources, the committee says that for the last two years, 50% of the seats in engineering are vacant. Because of this, it is recommended to not enrol in B.Tech in any of the new engineering colleges in the 2020-21 session.

After the BTech degree, more than 50% of the students were not getting jobs. Due to this, the AICTE had formed the committee and asked for suggestions to open the admission window in engineering on the basis of market demand. A few weeks later, the AICTE had announced its decision to reduce the intake in courses with poor admissions by half from the academic year 2018-19, a move aimed at addressing the mismatch. Following this, the total number of B.Tech and M.Tech seats this year, across all AICTE-approved institutes, dropped by 1.67 lakh – the sharpest fall in five years and almost double of what was witnessed in 2017-18.
As for approving additional seats in existing institutions, the committee has suggested that the AICTE should only give approvals based on the capacity utilisation of concerned institute.
