As you all know, you cannot make good money with Google Adsense if your Google AdSense CPC (Cost per Click) and CTR (Click through rate) are low. If you are looking for ways on how you can improve them, don’t worry because you are in the right place.

There is no any other pay per click network that can increase your website visibility and on the other hand improve your website click through rates its only Google which does that.

Before the start, let as first understand what these terms mean.

WHAT IS GOOGLE ADSENSE CPC?

Google AdSense CPC stand for cost per click this is the amount of money you get when a person clicks on a Google advert placed on your website or Blog.

WHAT IS GOOGLE ADSENSE CTR?

Google AdSense CPC stands for click through rate: This is the number of clicks that your ad receives divided by the number of times your ad is shown:

Here is a short explanation of how Google AdSense CPC Works.

Let’s say the average Google AdSense CPC of your website or blog is $0.3 and your websites get around 1000 clicks. You will just multiply $0.3×1000 clicks = $300 is that not good money? The lower your cost per click the lower the cash you will make in the same amount of clicks.

With this, it is good to focus on improving your Google AdSense CPC rather than concentrate on getting many clicks while your Google AdSense CPC is low which will make you fewer earnings.

How can you improve your Google AdSense CPC?

Well, you can improve your Google Adsense CPC by working on the following things on your website.

Website Niche

First thing first, choosing a right niche for your blog or website is of utmost important. Google AdSense CPC or Cost Per Click of an ad directly depends upon the topic on which you’re writing your blog.Well! Let me clarify one thing here that you’re going to choose a niche, however, there are niches that can pay you high Google AdSense CPC. Yes! Here is the list of niches that can give you a high return, I have arranged them in decreasing order of Google AdSense CPC.

  • Domains – Blogs on Internet Domains Like GoDaddy, Namecheap etc. It pays highest CPC.
  • Gadgets – Tech Gadgets like Apple products
  • Google – Google Products
  • Microsoft – MS Office
  • Banking
  • Automobile
  • Health
  • Real Estate
  • Home Loans
  • Jobs
  • Dating & Romance – It pays lowest CPC

Find profitable keywords

Lawyer jokes will only get you so far. If you want to be especially effective at targeting high paying keywords, you need to research. You can use tools like SEMrush or LongTailPro to do it. Find the highest paying phrases that are relevant to your audience, and include them in your content. But be careful there – don’t sacrifice content quality in favor of higher CPCs.

Create compelling ads that attract visitors to click

Focus on choosing your website visitors over ads. If you focus on your customer’s needs and wants, you will be able to create better Google AdSense campaigns to make decent passive income from AdSense ads. Use Google AdWords keywords suggestion tool to come up with relevant phrases for your ads, focus on how competitive the keywords are and also analyze how much they can generate you for each keyword.

You need to ask yourself few questions before creating any campaign. Here few of them are

  • Are these keywords searchable on Google?
  • Do people really like to click on these ads without thinking much?
  • How much each ad can generate (per click) aka analyze your CPC

Compelling ads always generate more CTR as they don’t give any false hopes to the visitors, and compelling ads always stand out from the competition. While creating ads, don’t imagine you are creating ads to generate more money, instead think from your customers point of view to generate more clicks.

Your headline of the ad, description, and URL are the 3 essential ingredients that can make or break your click through rates, so make sure to have

  • a powerful headline
  • irresistible URL and
  • a search engine friendly description
  • Ad placement is also the key.

Where you put your ads on your blog’s design plays a huge role in increasing your AdSense CTR and CPC. Here’s a simple screenshot that explains you about the ad placement.

The first block (which can be seen left side above) usually gives you highest AdSense CPC and CTR because the ad placement is so good when compared to the second block.

Quality content is the key

Quality content is one the primary reasons few websites get more CTR and CPC rates from Google AdSense ads. The websites that generate more income from AdSense focus on creating relevant content instead of writing everything under the sun.

One thing should keep in mind is that you should write contents around your website niche only. This way, you will be able to convert your website into a well-themed website for that niche. In case, you start writing about an unrelated niche, you will see the drop in click through rate you are getting on your Google Adsense Ads.

This way you may even lose lots of your existing users as they are visiting your website to see latest contents about that niche only and not about any unrelated niche. Hope you got my point.

Promote high-revenue content

You might notice that some content brings more revenue on AdSense and higher CTRs and CPCs than other content. Investing some of that revenue in bringing more traffic to those pages or promoting them on your homepage will raise them for your entire inventory. In addition, it’s always a smart idea to keep digging where you find gold. If you find that articles on a specific topic or types of content bring in higher CPCs? Make more of those.

Create converting landing pages

Once the visitor lands on your site for the first time, he will be first noticing your design elements of your websites. If your design is messy and gives a spam feel, they will click exit button right away. So don’t create the messy design just to generate more sales from your ads, it can kill your conversion rates.

Don’t create false promises on your landing pages and always make sure to deliver what you have promised on your headlines, or description of the ads. That way you will be able to get more CPC (cost per click) rates from your Google AdSense campaigns.

Here are few tips for increasing your AdSense CTR and CPC with your landing pages.

  • Always focus on creating landing pages that are less distractive. The less distraction you provide the more benefits you will get.
  • Use tools like GetResponse, LeadPages etc to create landing pages. They are cost effective and extremely easy to create stunning landing pages.
  • Analyze how others are using landing pages in your field. See if you can replicate some of their features to boost your AdSense CTR.

Visitors location

One of the most important factors that can increase CPC is the country you are targeting. For example, a click on an ad from the USA can pay you up to $2 to $3 and click on the same ad from India can end up paying only 20 to 30 cents.

Hence, always tailor your blog and its content to audiences in English-speaking countries. It will also increase Page Rank of your website. So make sure to define your target market before entering into any niche.

Few best niches that can send you lots of US traffic to increasing your earnings are below.

  • Fitness
  • Cooking
  • Real estate
  • Games
  • Technology
  • News
  • Entertainment
  • Gossip
  • Weight loss etc.

Nurture your SEO efforts

On-page SEO and proper SEO optimization is really the key to increasing your AdSense CPC and CTR.

Make sure to use your targeted keywords in your title tags, subheadings, URL, image alt tags, links and throughout the body to make your content rank well in Google search results.

But be aware of keyword stuffing. If you use the same keywords repeatedly, Google crawlers may think your content is spam and it will penalize your rankings. Use relevant keywords instead of keyword stuffing, it can really help you boost your search rankings.

By following the above-mentioned tips, you will be able to improve your Google Adsense CPC and CTR. If I missed an important tip that could help us increase Google AdSense cost per click or click-through rate, don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments.
Final thoughts about increasing AdSense CPC and CTR

Improving Google AdSense CPC and CTR is not a hard task, and anyone with basic skills on how to turn visitors into prospects can generate a good average income from PPC ads. Conversion tracking is also a major factor that can decide your CTR rates as you need to focus on getting more click through rates than increasing your ad budget.

If you implement the above 7 tips, not only you will increase your traffic but also you can increase your AdSense CPC and CTR of your blogs. Just make sure to create keyword rich content by analyzing your competitors and you will soon notice better results.

Allow & block ads

In Google AdSense, you will find Allow block ads. You can go there and see yourself how much each ad category is paying you. This will show you different ads category that is showing on your website. If you find that any ad category is not paying much then feel free to block that category.

Try to block those categories which are completely irrelevant to the content or niche of your blog. Suppose blog is about Technology then block the ad categories for Dating, Politics, Religion etc. This will surely increase your AdSense CPC.

Use the AdSense Ad Review Center

We’ve already established that some advertisers are clueless. So they design awful-looking ads with bad copy that no one wants to click on. Unless you’re a huge fan of 1990s style blinking animation banner ads – you can just block them. This will give you control of what products and brands are promoted alongside your content. Choose to display only ads from high paying advertisers.

Use the Competitive Ad Filter

Much like the Ad Review Center, the Competitive Ad Filter is aimed at filtering out unwanted ads. In this case, those of your competitors. You can block specific domains or whole AdSense accounts. This doesn’t just increase your CPC but prevents your audience from ending up on competitors’ websites.

Smart Pricing

Paying for clicks is so very last decade. Today, smart advertisers want high ROI – actual clients of value. To make this happen, Google estimates the likelihood of conversion for the advertiser when it picks an ad to serve and a place to serve it. The CPC value is based on that likelihood. Many publishers fear that being “Smart Priced” by Google will hurt their earnings. But you can make it work to your advantage. How? By bringing quality traffic to your quality content and displaying relevant ads. The more clicks turn into clients – the more AdSense will pay you for each click.

Make content matching easy

Although Google still reserves this feature for larger publishers only, if you can get Matched Content units in your Adsense – do it. By replacing your existing article recommendation engine with Google’s, you’re letting Google promote relevant and revenue-generating content to your visitors. And Google knows more about your visitors than you do. In addition, it stands to reason that Google will at some point turn this unit into a content recommendation service to compete with Taboola and Outbrain. Which may become another source of AdSense revenue for you.

Enable placement targeting

An advertiser will pay more for quality placement. It’s why you like to keep your premium inventory close to the chest. Google wants to make it easier for advertisers to target specific areas of your website (like the sports or the fashion section) or specific formats (like video ads only). You can do this by grouping ads into Custom Channels – you can have up to 500 of them. You can even let advertisers target up to 500 specific URLs, giving them easier access to relevant content for their ads.

Platform

Your blogs are read from different platforms like desktop, laptop, mobile etc. Although CPC is generally not much affected by the platforms on which ads are shown but you should try your best to target as many as readers. You will get most of the readers from desktop and laptop devices.

If you are able to reach to a hand-held or mobile readers than CPC may increase as ads shown on cellphones are of higher quality. All you need that the blog should be mobile friendly, and you serve AdSense ads which are optimized for mobile screen size.

Text & Image Format

Perhaps I should have explained this suggestion in the beginning of the blog. Anyhow, you must know to choose the right format for your ad. If you can place three ads on a page then choose two 336 X 280 ads and one 468 X 60 ad.Then ad format must be text because text ads have higher CTR (click through rate). You can even try ad format for both text & image simultaneously as it gives you more CPC. Image ads are usually less preferred for both reasons less CTR and lower CPC. Though at times, depending upon the niche and blog type, image ads perform better in terms of higher CTR but CPC won’t be as good as text ads. Anyways, as I mentioned above it differs from niche type and most important ad placement.

Ad Placement

Never neglect the placement of your ads on the web page as it is directly proportional to your Adsense revenue. So where to place ads for maximum CPC? The answer is simple. Place 2 ads inside your blog post and 1 outside the post.As far as placing inside goes then place one 336 X 280 rectangle ad on the top of the blog just below the title and place second 468 X 60 ad in between the blog post. Remaining one ad you can place on your right side that is outside your post.

Though it should be your choice and depend upon your reason for blogging. For example, if you are a professional blogger and dependent on Adsense, you should not miss a chance to optimize ad and use maximum possible ad units on a single page. Though if you are a hobby blogger or blogging on a personal blog, your first target should be giving quality content and fewer ads, as readers hate advertisement which distracts them from reading.

Let me tell you the maximum clicks and higher CPC will come from 2 ads which are inside the blog post especially on the top.

Keep Experimenting

Always keep trying something new. Experimenting can really pay you high dividends. You can try out for different niches, choose different ad placements and finally take as many as advice from Google Adsense center. Never bogged down into one style always try something new.

Page Rank boosts AdSense revenue

Domain’s page rank (PR) also increases the AdSense income. If your site’s PR is good your earnings will be enhanced. You will get more CPC revenue. For example, if one site (PR-1) AdSense publisher earns 0.20$ for one click then another site (PR-5) will make 1.0$ for the same CPC value.

It is believed that high page rank sites earn more money from AdSense program with great CPC value. So focus on PR of your site too. It will definitely increase your money with Google.

Don’t do too much internal linking

It also considered that doing too much internal linking in the article can give you the loss of hundreds of dollar. Thinking How….???

Look when a visitor is offered with lots of links to an article, he might get irritation. He might not click on any link due to the various links he is getting there. So you will miss bugs also when they don’t click on links and ads. So avoid the excess of internal links.

Display Google search box

Google search box also enhances the AdSense money earnings. Show at least one Google search bar box on your site. Hence whenever a user requires finding something, he can easily search from that search bar. The results display in the search bar includes relevant results with ads also. The visitor can click there too and money will be in your account.

Link your Analytics and AdSense accounts

Good analysis of stats in Google analytics can boost your AdSense earnings. You have to find out on which keyword a user is coming to your site and clicking on ads. Track on which search, at least once the visitor is clicking on the display ads.

If you find it then work on that keyword and optimize your site for that key-phrase, it will help you a lot to increase your AdSense earnings.

Get more connect with Google

Linking Analytics isn’t enough. Google likes dedication and prioritizes “loyal” publishers over others accordingly. Don’t have Google Webmaster Tools yet? You should. Local business? Create a Google Business account. Don’t have a YouTube channel yet? That’s a whole revenue source you’re missing out on! The more you snuggle up to Google, the more AdSense will “trust” you with their higher-paying advertisers.

Mix and Match

Google AdSense encourages you to try new things with your ads. It’s a feature called “Experiments” that lets you A/B tests different versions of ad formats, advertisers, and ad networks. You’d be surprised how much subtle changes like background color or font type can change the CPC of the same link unit. We too encourage testing and optimization adventures. Move the ad units around. Change sizes. Change color schemes. Block some ad categories. Keep what works and try something else with what doesn’t work. If you feel that AdSense experiments aren’t easy to create and don’t provide enough of a lift in your earnings try AdNgin experiments that use bandit testing to increase AdSense earnings.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I would only say if you follow and implement these 10 tips then you can surely increase your AdSense revenue from 30% to 40%. It is completely legal and genuine way to increase your earning in short time. You can also search for highest CPC AdSense Keywords and compile one-two posts around it.

  1. Adsense Optimization is pretty interesting for me. If we concentrate on conversion rate optimization along with SEO, I guess in less time we can improve revenue generating funda of our web marketing efforts. The best way to improve Adsense revenue is to write content on high CPC keywords, but such articles will not perform well in organic search because of high competition. We can drive traffic through low competition keywords to blog and include high paying keywords link within the article; so that visitors would click on high paying keywords link and redirect to high CPC article within a blog.

For me, it’s just studying with ad placements and experimenting with font size and colors to mix in with the content that works. I know that Google Adsense optimization is critical to earning from blogging. But it is very ugly to use 336×280 at the top of blog post because it diverts reader attention. So I always keep 728×90 or 468×60 at the upper part of the header.

CPC/CPM/PPC is the most crucial factor if your blogs main monetization factor of Google Adsense. I’m practicing very hard to increase my Adsense earnings because they are very low in my blogs. I’m working with keywords in articles, and I’m praying I can get something more from it. Anyways its an excellent article about increasing Adsense earnings. You have discussed all the key points for increasing CPC of Adsense Ads. Thanks!
